I've managed to install the geovision codec but when I try to import or drag the files into Win Movie Maker it gives me an error message along the lines of 'this is not a recognized file and cannot be imported'. Is there any other software that would be able to convert these avi files for me. Edit: I've googled some more and have tried the virtualdub method with much luck either.

With VDub I keep getting an error message saying it can not find the decompressor GEOX.but I've installed the geovision codec correctly as it shows up in control panel -remove program. BTW I'm on Vista 64 if that matters.
Jan 19th, 2009 7:01 pmWell apparently the Windows Movie Maker method does not work in Vista as I've got it to work with XP. Apparently there are known issues with WMM v6 that comes bundled with Vista. I had it work on my Vista 32 Laptop. Maybe you have to run as administrator or you could transfer it to another pc and try again. Did you try playing the video with the Gom Player, if it will play with that just tell whoever needs to watch it to download the Gom player. You could also download something called Gspot and see what video codec the video uses. Just install Gspot then go to the video file & right click on it and choose open with Gspot and it will show you in the upper right corner what codec it uses.

And I thought, after watching all those CSI episodes, that the police can pull a video clip from a piece of cardboard.but whatever:shrugs.
