I found the answer - you need to: (1) plug the serial cable into the back of the switch and into a computer running HyperTerminal or putty. (2) configure the connection over COM1, spped 9600, parity None, Flow Control None. (3) click connect (4) reboot the router (take the power cable out and put it back it) (5) on the HyperTerminal / Putty screen you will see the router booting. (6) if you boot as normal it will give you the option to run the Easy Configuration Wizard - this will allow you to configure admin username / password and the IP address of the web management page (7) you will be able to log in to the web management page hope this helps someone else jack.
