You can get replaceable heads for many pumps. In my case, I bought a replaceable head and hose together. I think where the hose connects to the base is more or less standardized for most pumps, so you should hopefully be able to find many options.Right after I posted this thread, I did a search and found that the hose and head come together as a replacement. I went out and looked at my Ascent pump and that is the case with the pump. The hose and head unscrew from the pressure gauge. Now, I just need to find one that will work on the pump.

Have to make the drive to Performance anyway for something else, so I'll just see what they have down there. Ended up buying a Ascent pump at Performance Bike for $18.

That is the same one that I had for 8 years. I'll suck it up and spend $18 every 8 years. Now, after reading the Silca pump stuff, I might go that route on the next pump purchase. Are they good for both Schraeder and Presta valve because I have 2, maybe 3, kids that will be riding bikes by the time I have to buy a new pump and I'm pretty sure those bikes will be using schraeder valves. Threaded valves eat up pump heads. You will extend the life of your pump by using threadless valves//.

When my kids had bikes with Schraeder It was always a chore to fill up there tires because you have to screw the head on to get the air in and quickly unscrew without losing too much air. I tended to overfill it so when I took it off, it would be the right pressure.

I always wanted to buy a dedicated pump for them and leave the Silca for me. Maybe there is a different head but the one I have really sucks, though the presta side works great and I have had this pump for 25 years.

I was about to pull the trigger on a Silca #30 adapter that does both schraeder and presta, which is what I think you are referring to. I think I will pass on it. What a PITA to find a replacement pump head, especially when the new pump only cost me $18. I think I'm going to go with one of those screw on adapters or something for this old pump and just keep it in my trunk as a backup. You should see if those Ascent pumps have rebuild kits available.

As long as the head/hose aren't cracked, you should be able to replace the worn bits inside and get the old pump working again. Then you can keep it at work/in the car/etc.Yeah, re-build hardware is available for Joe Blow, too. Performance Bikes has rebuild parts. Like on my 25 year old Silca, a rubber grommet that presses down over the Presta valve housing get chewed up by the threads. I've had to replace mine 3 or 4 times. Those grommets can be found for Joe Blow and possibly Ascent, too.

Just take the old one out and match it up.
